SMFL Introduces Novice Division for 2017 Summer Season

The Sault Minor Football League is proud to present its newest division for the coming 2017 season. The “Novice” division has been added to minor football as an introductory division for all children ages 5-7.

The Novice division will play non-contact flag football, as per rules set out by The Sault Minor Football League. Rules will be available on the SMFL website in weeks to come.

This latest addition to our league has been added to provide an introduction to the basics of football, as well as promotion of physical activity and FUN. The season will commence in June and games will be held every Sunday morning/early afternoon at the John Rhodes until mid-July. Game time will run one hour in length and all coaches will hold weekly practices for NO more than two hours per week.

Practices are very important for growing player understanding & knowledge of the game so please do your best to commit and have your child at practice. Not to mention, they are so MUCH FUN!

All children will be provided with a team shirt and game flags. Teams will be divided up in mid-May, at which time you will be contacted by your coach to get the season started. In the meantime, if you have any questions or special requests please contact us.

SMFL president Jim Monico told Saultsports.com that “It’s an introductory league, were we saw a need for activities for younger children. We feel it will get kids to love football at a younger age and have FUN.”
