For the past four winters Silver Creek has hosted two fundraising hockey events during the winter months, the Silver Creek Cup and the Little Caesars Winter Classic.
The Winter Classic, an outdoor tournament hosted in the parking lot of the golf course on natural ice, was held in February with over 140 players participating helping to raise $5500.00. This year the funds will be used to bring a special guest to Garden River First Nations and Sault Ste Marie. Former member of Team Canada’s women’s hockey team Brigette Lacquette will be visiting the area July 7th – 9th to assist in a three day girl’s hockey and golf camp hosted by Silver Creek. 60 girls in two age divisions have registered and will take part in this truly unique experience.
The Silver Creek Cup took place in April at the Soo Pee Wee Arena with over 200 adult hockey players participating in the annual event. The week long tournament is held annually and this year the funds raised will go to support young hockey players and their families who are in need of some assistance in purchasing new equipment for the upcoming season. This will be the 4th year that Silver Creek has been able to provide this opportunity to those families who could use a little extra help with the ever growing costs of minor hockey.
For those looking to enquire how they can be selected to receive some new gear we ask that your child (son or daughter) writes a story (150 words or less) explain why they enjoy hockey, their favorite hockey experiences to date and any description they can offer regarding the type of player they are. Feel free to be as creative as you would like to be! Also please include your equipment needs for the upcoming season. We will try and accommodate as many players as possible! Last summer Silver Creek was able to help over 20 local youth players in selecting new equipment at the Soo Source for Sports.
Please email your child’s letter to email@example.com. All efforts will be made to assist as many as possible. Thank you to the wonderful sponsors, supporters and participants of the Silver Creek Cup and Winter Classic this past winter.
