Senior Knight Boys Head Home 1-3 from 2017 AAA OFSSA

After a successful season and winning the 2017 Sault Ste Marie High School Senior Boys city championship with a 1 – 0 win over the Superior Heights Steelhawks, St. Mary’s headed to Sudbury where the Knights defeated the Widdifield Wildcats of North Bay, Ontario on May 26th in a 7 – 0 shutout win. With the 7 – 0 win, the Knights advanced to Hamilton for the 2017 OFSSA Championships from June 1st to 3rd hosted by Cardinal Newman.

The Vikings of Hammarskjold High School of Thunder Bay, Ontario handed the Knights a 1 – 0 loss on Thursday at 9:00 a.m to open their 2017 provincial championships. Later that afternoon, St. Mary’s hit the field against the hosts, the Cardinal Newman Cardinals in a 1:30 p.m match – up. The Cardinals sank the lone goal in the 1 – 0 win over the Knights to drop St. Mary’s to 0 – 2 heading into Friday morning’s game. Looking for their first win of the championships, the Knights fell 3 – 0 to the Upper Canada College Blues at 9:30 a.m on Friday morning in Hamilton. At 2:00 p.m on June 2nd, St. Mary’s took to the field to meet the Collingwood Collegiate Institute Fighting Owls of Collingwood, Ontario. In their final round robin match – up, the Knights earned their first win in Hamilton with handing the Fighting Owls a 4 – 1 loss in the final game of round robin for St. Mary’s.

After a 4 – 1 win in game four of round robin at the 2017 OFSSA AAA Championships, the Knights return to Sault Ste Marie with a 1 – 3 record.
