Algoma University and the Algoma University Thunderbirds Varsity Athletics Program are pleased to announce that Jordan Campioni has joined the wrestling team for the 2017-18 season.
“The Algoma U wrestling program is excited to have Jordan as a member of our line-up for next year,” said Trevor Manchester, Head Coach of the wrestling team. “His success at the high school and club level, where he placed fourth at OFSAA and third at Provincials, are great indicators of his hard work and dedication. As a student at St. Mary’s, and a local member of the Algoma Wrestling Club, our coaching staff has had the pleasure of helping this young wrestler throughout his career. As a wrestler, Jordan combines size and speed and has really improved his scramble and aggressiveness. He will be a welcome addition to our team.”
From Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Campioni is a member of the Algoma Wrestling Club and competes in the men’s 83-kilogram weight class. Standing at 5’9″ and 181 pounds, Campioni is just 17 years of age. With his high school, St. Mary’s College, Campioni has won back-to-back NOSSA championship titles and placed fourth at OFSAA.
He will be studying in Algoma U’s four-year Honours Bachelor of Art in Law and Justice program.
“I chose Algoma U and the Thunderbirds because it is an amazing opportunity to get a good education here at home. Also, it gives me the chance to continue in the sport I love, working with a great team and being coached by Trevor Manchester who was a big part of my success throughout high school and I am very excited to have him as my coach for the next four years,” said Campioni.
