After eleven road games to start the season, the (8-1-2) Sault College Cougar men’s hockey program is finally hitting the ice for a pair of home games on November 3rd and 4th when they play host to the Schoolcraft College Ocelots.
The Cougars are coming off their first loss of their inaugural season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) DIII to the NCAA JV Finlandia Lions in Hancock, Michigan over the October 26th and 27th weekend. The Cougars opened that weekend with a 5 – 3 win over Lions before falling 4 – 3 on Saturday afternoon. Sault College has made five road trips out of the last six past weekends with wins over Saginaw Valley State University, Northwood University, Schoolcraft College and Ferris State University to open their season.
The Cougars will meet the Ocelots at the Rankin Arena at 8:00 p.m on Friday while taking to the ice for a 12:00 p.m afternoon matinee on Saturday. Sault College will also host the Finlandia Lions on December 1st and 2nd along with the Alpena College Lumberjacks on January 12th with all games taking place at the Rankin Arena.
The Cougars are led by first year forward Ryan Vendramin leads the Cougars with 16 goals and 12 assists in seven games that include to power play markers. Former NOJHL Blind River Beaver Cole Peck leads the defenceman with four goals and eleven contributors in nine regular season games heading into this weekend’s match – ups. Goaltender Drew Gregory has a goals against average of 2.41 entering into Sault College’s seven week of the 2017 – 2018 ACHA DIII season.
