Sabercats Heading Into OFC Week Four Against the Gladiators

On June 17th, the Sault Sabercat junior and varsity Sabercats will play their final OFC Football regular season game at home at Superior Heights against the visiting Sudbury Gladiators with the junior’s kicking off at 1:00 p.m while the varsity starts at 4:00 p.m with both games at Superior Heights in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

The (2 – 1) juniors are coming off their second straight win of the season with a 52 – 21 road win in Vaughan on June 10th over the Rebels and head into Saturday’s match – up against the (2 – 1) Gladiators. The Sabercats enter into June 17th game with quarterback Jordan Robinson – Wright throwing for 172 yards with eight completions on 16 attempts against the Rebels that included two touchdowns.

“This will be a huge game for us, Sudbury is an excellent team and a huge rivalry for us. We’re struggling with some key injuries on Offense, so they key for us will be to eliminate costly mistakes on Defense and have a focused effort on Offense for the entire sixty minutes” said junior coach Steve Nott.

On the varsity side, the (1 – 2) Sabercats will look to even their record when they meet the (2 – 1) Gladiators in a 4:00 p.m kick – off. The Sault brought home their first win of the 2017 season after a dominating 49 – 2 win over the Rebels in week three in Vaughan on June 10th.

Varsity coach Matt Premo told that “I think players are getting more comfortable with their roles and offensively we are improving as a unit each and every practice. It will be nice to retune some key players from injury this week as well. Ryan has steadily improved since he had to take over at quarterback. I was very impressed with his performance last week and we hope he can have a similar performance this week. The more snaps he gets in practice and games the more comfortable he seems to get with the offence.”

“In order to get a win this weekend we will need another strong performance from our defence and we will need to be consistent on offence. Finally we will need our special teams to help us win the field position battle” said Premo.
