The Sault College Cougars will played host to many of the best collegiate cross country runners in its 2nd Annual Invitational race held at Crimson Ridge on October 1st. The weather cooperated as the forecasted rain held off producing optimal racing conditions.
Such conditions saw Cambrian’s Mary Strain paced the field in blistering course record time of 18:26 – over a minute better then second place Jenelle Hanna (unattached) 19:51 and third place Kaitlin Shuvera (Humber) at 20:08. In the team results Humber edged out Fanshawe for first; the Sault College Cougars finished sixth in team with Lindsey Lewkowitz finishing 30th.
The men’s race also produced its share of exciting action on a fast track including a photo-finish for first place; Centennial’s William Chemo edged out Fleming’s Riley Olesky at the tape with both posting times of 26:41. Fanshawe’s Seth Marcaccio came in third with a time of 26:52. In the men’s team results Fanshawe claimed the championship out-pointing Mohawk who finished second. Sault College’s Liam Johnson was the top Cougar runner finishing 44th .
The day’s event was a trial run of the Crimson Ridge course which will play host to the 2016 CCAA Cross Country Championships on November 12th, 2016.
