Playoff Berths Determined at the 2017 OCAA Curling Championships

After three days and 20 draws in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed action the playoff field is set for the 2017 OCAA Curling Championships presented by BelairDirect at the Community First Curling Centre. The final day of round robin proved to be one for the ages as the teams battled to the final draw for those cherished playoff berths.

On the women’s side Fleming College at 5-1 rose to the top winning its final game of the round robin and claiming top seed. They will face Niagara College in the first semi while Fanshawe College and Humber College will meet in the other. All three teams finished at 4-2 but by tie breaking using last shot advantage the order of placing was Fanshawe, Humber and then Niagara.

In the mixed division both Sault College and Humber College advance to the semi-finals with identical 4-1 records but Humber takes the number 1 spot by way of their victory over the Cougars in the last draw of the day. The Hawks will take on 2016 Champions from Fanshawe College in the first semi while the Cougars will face Fleming College.

Finally, in what was one of the best men’s fields in recent history the Humber Hawks paced the field by posting a 7-1 record and secure top seed in the playoff round where they will take on Mohawk College who at 4-4 came through a 3 way tie-breaker to secure the final spot. The other semi is a rematch of the 2016 Final where host Sault College takes on the Fanshawe Falcons.

All semi-finals take place Sunday morning at 9 am with the winners moving onto the Gold medal match while the losers will battle for Bronze at noon.
