The fourth place west division Soo Eagles headed into Powassan on November 4th to face the first place east division Voodoos in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season action. The Eagles are coming off a 3 – 1 loss 24 hours earlier in Kirkland Lake to the east division Gold Miners.
4:21 into the game, Powassan’s Payton Vescio sends a pass to Ryan Theriault to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead. Christian Bardarson evens the game 1 – 1 for the Eagles with Mikey Butcher and Nick Techel adding the helpers on Bardarson’s goal. Bobby Price finds Soo veteran forward Jacob Palmerio to give the visitors a 2 – 1 lead at 17:23 of the period. Owen Kipke adds to the Eagles lead 18:56 into the first with Kobe Keller and Hayden Clark drawing the contributors on Kipke’s power play goal. With eight seconds left in the period, Jake Saxton sends the Eagles into the first intermission up 4 – 0 with unassisted goal for the Soo. Aaron Dickson brings the Voodoos within two 2:30 into the middle stanza with a pass from Dylan D’Agostino. Nick Techel increases the Eagles lead to 5 – 2 with Kobe Keller adding the helper at 2:47 of the second.
Mikey Butcher and Palmerio set up the Soo’s sixth of the game on a Kellen Tharaldson’s goal to bring the lead to 6 – 2 on a Tharaldson power play marker. 13 seconds before the halfway mark of the second, Harrison Israels finds the back of Eagles net with unassisted Voodoo shorthanded goal to close the gap to three. 1:46 into the third with a Eagle unassisted goal, George Orfanos gives the Soo a 7 – 3 lead. At 8:37 of the period, Cade Herd sends a pass to Voodoo Aaron Dickson for Powassan’s fourth of the contest. Dayton Murray fires the final goal of the game at 10:13 of the final period with Israels and Theriault adding the contributors on Murray’s power play goal. The goaltending tandem of Carter McPhail and Shane Brancato shared the duties between the pipes with Brancato stopping 22 of 25 in the first 29:47 while McPhail turned away 26 of 28 in the Soo’s 7 – 5 win over the Voodoos.
The Eagles will round out their three game road trip in French River on November 5th when they hit the ice against the Rapids in a 4:00 p.m afternoon matinee in NOJHL action.
