Nine student – athletes represented Sault College at the 2017 Ontario College Athletic Association Cross Country Provincial Championships in London, Ontario hosted by Fanshawe College on October 28th.
In the 6K women’s division Emily Pollard ran a 32.55.3 for 81st, Sierra Betournay finished in 85th with a time of 35.52.9 while Ashley Pollari had a 38.01.8 provincial finish for 88th in London on Saturday morning.
In men’s 10K division with a time of 30.00.1, Sault College’s Jordan Reinke led the men for 52nd followed by Luis Curiel – Rojas with 31.27.4 time for 67th. Finishing 69th in the men’s division, second year runner Parker Jackson had a time of 31.36.9 for the Cougars. Robbie Currie ran a 32.22.0 for 74th at the 2017 provincials. Janvier Nsengiyumua and Liam Jordan finished 81st and 82nd respectively out of 106 runners in times of 33.10.0 and 33.11.2 for Sault College.
First year Sault College Cougar cross country coach Dan Turco told Saultsports that “I think that we hung in tough with the very best college runners in Ontario over the weekend. This was one of the deepest fields I have seen over my five years being involved in the OCAA cross country scene. I was quite satisfied with how our runners competed on Saturday.”
“Almost everyone had their best race of the season so as a coach, I can’t ask for much more. It was a great first year for me as head coach. I have come away with a lot of knowledge that I will hopefully be able to use in the future to make our team more competitive moving forward” said Turco.
