Live MMA will return to Sault Ste. Marie in just over two weeks when Wreck MMA brings their mixed martial arts event to the Rankin arena. The card for the all-ages event includes a dozen MMA bouts featuring the best up and coming amateur fighters in Ontario and Michigan, with numerous local competitors slated to compete.
The main event of the evening includes some local flare, when Sault Ste. Marie’s Spencer Pine of Steel City MMA will put his undefeated record of 3-0 on the line for the Wreck MMA International (Canada vs. USA) title. Pine’s opponent is the veteran Maurice Montgomery, who carries a 6-3 record into the bout and fights out of Detroit’s Team Kaos. The winner of the bout will receive the next title shot at Wreck MMA’s bantamweight belt.
Another featured bout with local ties features Emma Horner of Leading Edge MMA (Thunder Bay) taking on Jo Dagenais of the Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts. Growing up on St. Joseph’s Island, Horner is a graduate of Central Algoma Secondary School and is a four time National medalist in wrestling. She will be making her MMA debut against the more experienced Dagenais, who carries a record of one win and one loss.
Other local fighters slated to compete include Owen Martin, David Firlotte, Keryl St. Helen, Casey Sundstrom, Jason McCoy, Adam Brock, Abdullah Alkubar and Daylan Dorricot.
