Laker Women’s Volleyball Season Comes to an End with Loss at Michigan Tech

Lake Superior State volleyball capped the 2016 season with a 3-0 loss on the road against Upper Peninsula rivals Michigan Tech on Saturday November 12th to finish the season 3-26 record overall and an 0-17 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Huskies (16-14, 11-6 GLIAC) claimed set wins of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-15 on 45 kills and a .264 attacking percentage. LSSU had trouble attacking, posting just 19 kills and 17 attack errors for a .022 attacking percentage.

Freshman Amanda Reid led the Lakers with five kills and also posted three digs. Junior Brooke Williams finished with four kills and also assisted on three blocks.

Junior Karlee Weissend added five assisted blocks to lead both sides

Aubrey Ficek led MTU with a match-high 11 kills, followed by Lauren Emmert, Stephanie Dietrich and MacAulay Peterson with eight kills each. Emmert held a .462 attack percentage and Dietrich posted a .471 clip while each player registered a solo block.

LSSU was led by Brooke Williams with 180 kills on the season, followed by Reid’s 149 kills in her first collegiate season. Weissend led the Lakers up front with 84 total blocks (12 solo). Junior Madison Castle led the Lakers with 337 assists from the setter position, followed by Lauren Lukasik’s 306 assists.

The loss ends the Lakers season with an eighth place finish in the GLIAC North Division.
