Lake Superior State women’s tennis fell 7 – 2 at home against Northwood in Sunday October 3rd Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual match.
The Lakers (3-4, 2-4 GLIAC) earned singles victories from No. 1 singles competitor Tara Harvey and Jenay Andrews in No. 5 singles. Harvey carved out a 6-4, 1-6, 10-3 win over Carol Arnez-Mercado to move to 2-1 on the weekend, while Andrews led 4-3 in the first set before Anna Aniskina was forced to retire early from the match. Andrews also posted a 2-1 singles record on the weekend with the victory.
The Timberwolves (6-0, 6-0 GLIAC) swept the doubles portion to open the match with a 3-0 lead. Northwood earned the final point to clinch the match in a three-set showdown withOlesia Riabchuk winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 over LSSU’s Macarena Bielsa.
Up next the Lakers travel to Hillsdale on Saturday October 8th and Wayne State on Sunday October 9th. Both matches are scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
