Lake Superior State women’s golf concluded the Northwood Invitational on Tuesday October 4th with an 11th place finish in the 11-team field. The Lakers combined for an opening round score of 336 on Monday and followed up with a 343 in Tuesday’s final round.
Chilly temperatures in the morning on Tuesday brightened up with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s by the afternoon at Midland Country Club. During Monday’s opening round, golfers experienced little to no wind and were able to post terrific scores, despite slightly soggy course conditions.
Taylor Trzasko led the Lakers with back-to-back rounds of 81 to finish tied for 29th overall. Trzasko and teammate Hailey Watkins were tied at 81 (+11) following play on Monday. Trzasko also ranked tied for 17th with 18 total pars throughout the two rounds.
Watkins fell back to 54th and behind teammate Sammie Baldwin for the third-best overall team score after posting a 92 on Tuesday. Baldwin improved from Monday’s 85 to shoot an 82 on Tuesday and finish tied for 40th and second on the Lakers with a combined score of 167.
Tatiana Hulan (89-88–177) and Reanna Barth (90-92–182) rounded out the Lakers’ team score, placing tied for 59th and 62nd respectively.
The University of Findlay claimed the team title with a combined two-day total of 296-290–586. Hosts Northwood finished second overall with a 306 on Monday and a 307 on Tuesday for a 613. Findlay’s Shelby Warner claimed the individual medal with a 73-71–144 (+4). The Oilers also placed two others in the top five and had six golfers finish in the top-12.
The Lakers next travel to the Oilers’ Invitational at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio on October 9th – 10th.
