In west division action, the second place Soo Greyhounds headed into Sarnia on November 10th just two points back of the first place Sting on Ontario Hockey League regular season action.
At 15:54 of the opening period, Greyhound Jack Kopacka fires a pass to Barrett Hayton to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. With one second left in the period, Morgan Frost sends the visitors into the first intermission up 2 – 0 with Boris Katchouk and Noah Carroll contributing on Frost’s shorthanded goal. 46 seconds into the middle stanza, Anthony Salinitri pulls the Sting within one with Connor Schlichting and Jordan Kyrou drawing the assists on Salinitri’s power play marker. Rasmus Sandin and Conor Timmins set up the Greyhounds third of the game on Frost’s goal to bring the Soo to 3 – 1 at 11:47 of the second. Drake Rymsha closes the gap to one for Sarnia at 14:34 of the second with Kyrou and Schlichting notching the helpers on the Sting’s second of the game. Sinking the tying goal, Salinitri finds the back of Greyhound goaltender Matt Villalta’s net with 3:10 left in the game. Kyrou and Rymsha had the assists on Salinitri’s tying goal to send the game into overtime. 57 seconds into overtime, Jack Kopacka finds the back of Sarnia’s net to give the Greyhounds a 4 – 3 win over the Sting. Matt Villalta made 25 saves in the Greyhounds win over the Sting on Friday evening.
The Greyhounds will head north to Flint, Michigan on November 11th to meet the fifth place west division Firebirds in a 3:00 p.m puck drop.
