In Mississauga, Ontario at the 2017 OFSAA AAA Boys’ Hockey Championship on March 22nd, the St. Mary’s Knights hit the ice in their first game of the provincial championships against the Malvern Collegiate Institute Black Knights of the Toronto District Shcool Board in a 9:30 a.m match – up.
St. Mary’s forward Austin Rowe sank both games for the Knights in the 2017 NOSSA Championships 2 – 2 tie with the Knights. Travis Johnson saw action between the pipes for the Knights in St. Mary’s first game of the championship.
In game two on Wednesday afternoon on day one, the Knights met the Neil McNeil Maroons of the Toronto Catholic District School Board in a 2:00 p.m face – off. In the Knights 7 – 6 win with Matt Capisciolto, Daniel Cicchini and Darrell Baker each sank one goal for St. Mary’s while captain Austin Rowe registering a hat trick for the Knights.
“I thought we played well this morning used our speed to create chances. With two power play goals against we need to focus on that part of our game. In game two, we played terrible. We could not generate any speed through the neutral zone and turned over the puck far too often” said Knights coach Mike Oliveria.
The (1 – 0 – 1) Knights will finish out the round robin with a meeting with the Renegades of Grand River Collegiate Institute from Kitchener, Ontario in a 8:00 a.m start.
