The ninth place Soo Minor Midget Thunderbirds were on the road on October 28th and 29th when they faced the first place North Bay Trappers in Powassan, Ontario for a two game back to back series at the Powassan Sportsplex in Great North Midget League action.
In game one of the weekend, Noah Zeppa was between the pipes for the Thunderbirds while Justin Mauro and Colton Smithers had the goals in the Soo’s 8 – 2 loss to the Trappers. Brock Santa Maria, Travis Dowhaniuk, Jason McCormick had the contributors on the Thunderbirds goals on Saturday evening.
Game two was a little tougher on the Thunderbirds with the Soo losing 11 – 2 to North Bay in Powassan. Cooper Smyl and Justin Mauro sank the goals in the loss. Michael Chaffey, Mateo Perri, Santa Maria and Mauro drew the assists for the Thunderbirds.
Thunderbird coach Jamie Henderson told Saultsports that “I think as a group and individually we are learning what it takes to play at this level. We need to bring a better consistency to our preparation and commitment. We got into this knowing there would be some bumps in the road but we are going to stick with our vision and continue to try and improve every opportunity we get.”
The Jr Thunderbirds will play the North Bay Trappers on November 4th in a 12:30 p.m puck drop in Sault Ste Marie at the John Rhodes Centre.
