Jr Midget Greyhounds Take All Four Points from Majors in GNML Action

Coming off a 5 – 4 win on September 15th in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario over the Timmins Majors at Essar Centre, the Soo Jr Major Midget Greyhounds were back in action on September 17th at the John Rhodes Centre against the Majors in Great North Midget League hockey action.

With the Greyhounds shorthanded with a 5 on 3, rookie Avery Rebek sank the opening goal of the contest at 13:58 of the first period to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead with pass from Jacob Doucette to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead. 30 seconds before the halfway mark of the period, Camden Findley and Dale Armstrong set up Greyhound Tyler Nott on a Soo power play. Caleb Wood brings the Soo’s lead to 3 – 0 at the 8:33 mark of the period with Brody Dinsmore and Rebek adding the assists on Wood’s goal. Adding to the lead, Raf Praysner scores the Greyhounds fourth of the game at 6:34 of the first with Colby Arbour and Nick Niro drawing the helpers on Praysner’s goal.

Rebek sinks his second of the game with 4:41 left in the opening period with Camden King and Jonathan Mackin nocthing the contributors on Rebek’s goal. Rookie Nick Jameus fires the Soo’s fifth to give the Greyhounds a 5 – 0 lead at 10:29 of the second with Praynser and MacKenize Abelson registering the assists. With a scramble in front of Greyhound goaltender Dawson Hunter, Riley Robitaille sunk the Majors’ first of the game at 9:18 of the middle stanza with a pass from Frederick Leclair-Pouw. Findlay finds the back of Timmins net 5:02 into the final period to increase the lead to 7 – 1 for the Soo. Mackin set up Findlay’s power play goal.

Robitaille finds Major Brennan Martel at 13:06 of the period for Timmins second of the game to bring the score to 7 – 2. At 4:10 of the third with Douchette and Wood in the penalty box for slashing, Garrett Gelinas finds the back of Dawson Hunter’s net for Timmins’s third of the contest. Martel drew the assist on Gelinas power play goal. Giving the Greyhounds an 8 – 3 win, the Soo’s Dale Armstrong sinks the eighth of the game with 2:41 left with Nott and Findlay adding the contributors. Majors’ Jordan Yaremchuk and Dylan Dallaire shared the goaltending duties for Timmins.

The Greyhounds will now host the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves on September 29th, 30th and October 1st at the John Rhodes Centre with game times at 8:00 p.m, 12:30p.m and 1:00 p.m respectively.
