Jr Midget Greyhounds Score First Win of Season Over the Flyers

After opening the 2017 – 2018 Great North Midget League on Friday September 8th at home with a 4 – 1 loss to the Kapuskasing Flyers the Soo Jr Greyhounds hit the ice on Saturday evening for their second game of a three game homestand against the Flyers looking for their first win of the GNML season.

With 3:34 left in the first period, Greyhound rookie Nick Jameus finds the back Flyer Jaden Chouinard net with a Soo unassisted marker to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead. Avery Rebek brings the Soo’s lead to 2 – 0 at 2:52 of the opening period with helpers from Owen Shier and Jonathan Mackin drawing the contributors on Rebek’s goal. Kapuskasing’s Alex Blais closes the gap to one for the Flyers with firing a goal behind Greyhound netminder Dawson Hunter at 1:49 of the first.

Camden Findlay increases the lead to 3 – 1 for the Greyhounds 47 seconds past the halfway mark of the middle stanza on a Soo unassisted goal. With 44 seconds left in the game and the Flyer net empty and Kapuskasing with an extra attacker, Colby Arbour sinks an empty net with Jacob Douchette notching the assist on Arbour’s goal.

The Greyhounds will round out their homestand on Sunday September 10th against the Flyers with 1:00 p.m puck drop.
