Jr Midget Greyhounds Drop Season Opener at Home to the Flyers

In the 2017 – 2018 season opener for the Great North Midget League’s Soo Jr Greyhounds in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the Greyhounds hit the ice on September 8th to host the Kapuskasing Flyers in the first game of the season at the John Rhodes Centre in AAA major midget action.

4:19 into the first period, defenseman Sylvain Gravel fired a goal from the blueline to give the Flyers a 1 – 0 lead with Kapuskasing’s Ryan Maynard and Jared Dupuis adding the assists on Gravel’s power play goal. With 6:06 left in the opening period, Kapuskasing’s Jacob Comeau finds the back of Soo goaltender Andrew Uschenko’s net for the Flyers second power play marker of the period. Gabriel John – George had the helper on Comeau’s goal. Dupuis registers the visitors third goal of the contest at 7:56 of the middle stanza to bring the lead to 3 – 0 for the Flyers. Samuel Vachon drew the contributor on Dupuis’s goal.

Alex Lapointe increase Kapuskasing’s lead to 4 – 0 with 3:51 left the second with Dawson Linklater and Brendan Aubertin notching the assists on Lapointe’s goal. 4:40 into the final period, Greyhound rookie forward Avery Rebek scores his first of the season with Colby Arbour and Owen Shier adding the helpers on Rebek’s goal.

The Soo and Kapuskasing will be back in action for the second of three on Saturday September 9th for a 7:00 p.m start at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie.
