In their lone game of the weekend, the Soo Major Midget Greyhounds hosted the New Liskeard Cubs at the John Rhodes Centre on October 8th in Great North Midget League action. The Jr Greyhounds were coming off a 6 – 3 win a week earlier over the North Bay Trappers on September 30th.
Greyhound Owen Shier sinks the first goal of the game at 18:23 of the opening period with Jordan Ritchie and Parker Morgan adding the assists to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. Jonathan Mackin finds the back of the Cubs net to give the Soo a 2 – 0 lead with Caden King and Nick Niro drawing the contributors on Mackin’s power play goal at 18:58 of the middle stanza. Jackson Buffam finds the back of Greyhound goaltender Andrew Uschenko’s net at 10:53 of the second with Brady Lacharity and Ian McDonald registering New Liskeard’s goal. At 10:11 of the period, Jarrett Angelicio evens the game 2 – 2 for the visitors with Logan Williamson and Robbie Popkie notching the helpers on Angelicio’s power play marker.
Greyhound rookie Nick Jameus fires the go – ahead goal 7:39 into the second to give the Soo a 3 – 2 lead with Jacob Doucette and Parker Morgan adding the assists. At 4:58 of the third, Lacharity scores the tying goal for New Liskeard with Buffam and Williamson adding the contributors on Lacharity’s power play goal. Robbie Popkie had the game winner in the shootout for the Cubs to give New Liskeard a 4 – 3 win over the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds will now face the Cubs in New Liskeard at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena on October 20th in a 8:00 p.m puck drop.
