Soo Jr Greyhound Midgets, Caleb Wood, Noah Boman and Bradon Caruso were selected in the Inaugural Under-18 OHL Priority Selection Draft on April 12th. The 2017 Under-18 OHL Priority Selection event will bring awareness to 96 high level midgets who may needed an extra year of development to add speed and strength to their game before having an opportunity to continue their hockey careers in major junior ‘A’ hockey in the Ontario Hockey League.
16 year old forward Noah Boman was selected 18th overall in the first round of the Under-18 OHL Priority Selection Draft by the Soo Greyhounds. The 5’11” and 170 lbs forward played 32 regular season 2016 – 2017 Great North Midget League games for Jr Greyhounds with sinking 31 goals and adding 37 assists while tallying 24 minutes in penalties. In three 2017 post – season game with the Soo, Boman added two0 more goals to his season total in the GNML.

In the second round and the 22nd selection overall, Caruso was selected by the Guelph Storm. The 6’0” and 180 lbs defence patrolled the Jr Greyhound blueline for 31 regular season 2016 – 2017 GNML games. In 31 games, the 16 year old defense had six goals and contributed 21 assists along with accumulating 30 penalty minutes. In five 2017 play – off games, the blueliner sunk one goal for the Greyhounds.
Caruso told Saultsports.com that “It feels awesome to be selected by such a great quality organization in a league I’ve always watched growing up. I’ve it always been a goal of mine to be drafted to the ohl and this u18 draft has given me this opportunity. I’m very excited about the opportunity and couldn’t be happier with the result. I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead and competing for a spot in camp. I’d also like to thank everyone who’s been there along the way and congratulate the rest of the players who have been selected in the draft.”
17 year old forward of the AAA Jr Greyhounds was selected by his hometown Greyhounds with the 95th selection in fifth round. In 36 regular season GNML games, Wood found the back of the net on 32 occasions along with adding 23 assists for the Soo. The 5’11” and 165 lbs forward added one goal and two helpers in five post – season games and spending 34 minutes in the penalty box for the Jr Greyhounds.
The Soo Greyhounds also drafted two more 16 year olds in Owen Scott, Pierce Nelson along with 17 year old Theo Todd.
