After taking a silver medal in the nation’s capital on November 21st, the first place St. Mary’s Knights returned to Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action against the third place Korah Colts on November 23rd at the John Rhodes Centre.
At 13:30 of the first period, Josh Mannarino fires the opening goal to give the Knights a 1 – 0 lead with a pass from Nate Medaglia. Sinking his second of the contest at 6:05 of the period, Mannarino gives St. Mary’s a 2 – 0 lead. Carter Magge Marenger had the helper on Mannarino’s goal. Registering a hat trick and increasing St. Mary’s lead, Mannarino finds the back of Colt netminder Nicholas Trunzo’s net, Justin Ryyppo set up Mannarino’s third of the game at 2:45 of the first. Ryyppo and Justin Morrisette had the contributors on the Knights fourth of the game on Mannarino’s fourth to bring the lead to 4 – 0 with 3:57 left in the period. With only 59 seconds left in the second, Josh Gavey finds Knight Cole Delarosbil to give St. Mary’s a 5 – 0 lead.
Scoring his fifth of the game, Mannarino finds the back of Korah’s net at 8:22 of the third with Medaglia and Tyler Sayers adding the assists. With the Knights shorthanded, Jacob Bumbaco adds to the lead on a St. Mary’s goal with Noah Belec setting up Bumbaco’s goal to give the Knights a 7 – 0 win. Travis Johnson earns his first shutout of the 2017 – 2018 high school season.
The CASS Huskies will be the Knights next opponents when the two teams clash on November 29th in a 3:30 p.m start. Korah will take to the ice on November 30th when the Colts meet the Superior Heights Steelhawks at 3:30 p.m. Both games will take place at the John Rhodes Centre.
