The 2013 Air Canada Regional Championship hosts, the Soo Northstars will be holding try-outs for the Major and Minor AAA teams in Sault Ste Marie the last week of August. If you are interested in playing on the Minor Midget Team, you must attend ALL Midget Tryouts. The Northstars play in the Great North Midget "AAA" league has, since it's inception, become recognized as Ontario's premiere midget league and a great development league for young players interested in improving their skills and possibly moving on to Junior or University hockey. The league currently operates with nine clubs from Sault St. Marie, Rayside/Balfour, Kirkland Lake, Valley East, Sudbury, North Bay, New Liskeard, Timmins and Kapuskasing. “In response, Sault Major has decided to ice one AA minor midget team in 2012/13 that will be made up of all minor-midget aged players. This team will be similar to the AA 15-year old teams that Sudbury and then Copper Cliff iced the past two seasons - a ‘AAA’ minor midget team masquerading behind ‘AA’ cards.” The team will compete in up to five minor midget tournaments during the year along with exhibition games and could potentially compete in a northern loop that would include teams in the North Bay and Sudbury areas.
