Who We Are Sports Save Lives was started to focus on helping kids in our communities with a vision of making their sporting dreams come true. Our goal at Sports Save Lives is to enable and encourage underprivileged children to get involved in sports. At Sports Save Lives, we are passionate about helping young people thrive in life through participating in youth sports. It is our primary objective to provide programs and assistance is "Getting Kids into the Game". Our ultimate goal is for youth athletes to participate in sports, and that the positive impact of such experience enables them to live up to their full potential in the present and their future. Benefits of our programs will result in scholarships, subsidized registration fees for less fortunate kids, provision of sports gear and apparel, and other programs that enable young people to participate in organized youth sports. Sports Save Lives provides our program, to Get Kids into the Game, to give low-income, at-risk youth the financial and program resources they need to participate in trusted sports programs. Levelling the Playing Field For Kids Sports Save Lives is working to create more opportunities for underprivileged youth to rise above their challenging circumstances through sports. The 2010 blockbuster movie The Blindside showcased the story of Michael Oher and the Tuohy Family that enabled Michael to succeed despite his exceedingly difficult childhood. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of thousands of children in America who live with poverty, violence, drugs, and neglectful or abusive parenting. Only 33 % of underprivileged youth in Canada participate in organized sports because they cannot afford registration fees, sports apparel and shoes, and sports equipment. Through Sports Save Lives, you can provide assistance to these kids so they can join organized sports and receive the benefits of a positive team environment, learn new skills, develop physical fitness, and achieve new heights of self-confidence. Why We’re Working to Get & Keep Kids In The Game Youth sports programs are a critical positive developmental tool for the next generation of Canadians. Research studies overwhelmingly conclude that compared to unsupervised youths, kids who participate in after- school athletic programs have: - less substance abuse
- less teen pregnancy
- less obesity
- less misconduct and criminal activity
- better social skills
- better academic performance
- higher levels of physical activity later in life
Kids who play sports are 57% less likely to drop out of school, 49% less likely to take drugs, and 37% less likely to become teen parents. (Sociology of Sport Journal, June 2005). Youth who do not have sports-based development activities to fill hours during the day that would otherwise be unsupervised are at greater risk for a host of negative behaviours and outcomes. It’s not about equipment. It’s not about sports. It’s about life skills. It’s about kids growing into amazing young men and women. The fields and the courts are simply the venues for this transformation. Playing a sport gives kids a physical, mental, and emotional advantage. Inability to pay for equipment should never be a roadblock to these opportunities. But this is exactly the case for thousands of underprivileged kids. Our mission is to provide these kids with registration fees, sports apparel and shoes, and sports equipment needed to play organized sports and experience all the benefits it brings. Saultsports is proud to donate 5% of our profits to helping kids in our communities with a vision of making their sporting dreams come. Sports Save Lives is helping kids in our communities via: Sports Grants Sports Save Lives will grants to help sports dreams come true to children who have faced physical, emotional, and social challenges in their young lives.
