Speed skater goes to World Cup |

The Sault's 18 year-old Richard MacLennan, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Speed Skating Club, skated his first World Cup Meet last weekend in Berlin, Germany.
Friday, MacLennan skated his first 500 metre race in a time of 36.43 seconds and placed 20th out of 32 skaters in the B Division.
Sunday, he skated his second 500m in a much faster time of 35.92 seconds. The winning time of 35.58 was recorded by Japanese skater Ota.
MacLennan's time was the fastest of any Canadians in the A and B divisions on Sunday.
His second distance was the 1,000 metre A division, where he tied for 16th place against his pairing with the identical time of 1:10.80. American Shani Davis was first at 1:08.83.
The best performances by Canada's women and men was Christine Nisbett of London with gold medal victories in the 1,000 metre and 1,500 metre.

MacLennan's world ranking can also be found on the site. Currently, he is ranked first in the 500m and 1,000m among junior skaters.
This weekend, MacLennan will be in Heerenveen, Netherlands for the World Cup #2 meet where he is scheduled to skate the 1,000 meter A division only.
