Coming off a 4 – 3 overtime win over the west division Sting in Sarnia, Ontario on November 10th, the second place (14-3-2) Soo Greyhounds headed into Flint, Michigan to face the fifth place (6-10-2) Firebirds in Ontario Hockey League regular season action.
14 seconds past the halfway mark of the opening period, Boris Katchouk and Cole MacKay set up Morgan Frost’s tenth of the season to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. Conor Timmins sinks the visitors second of the game at 14:31 of the first with his second on the season with Timmins drawing the contributor on Timmins’ power play goal. On an unassisted goal, Brett Jacklin brings the Greyhounds lead to 3 – 0 with his second of the game at the 5:21 mark of the period. On a power play, Jack Kopacka sends a pass to Mac Hollowell at 6:53 of the period to increase the lead to 4 – 0. Katchouk registers his second assist on the game at 11:22 of the second on Hollowell’s second of the contest to bring the Soo’s lead to 5 – 0. With a Firebird shorthanded unassisted goal at 18:20 of the second, Max Kislinger finds the back of Greyhound goaltender Tyler Johnson for Flint’s first of the game.
Calvin Martin fires his first of the 2017 – 2018 season for the Greyhounds at 18:31 of the period to send the Soo into the second intermission up 6 – 1. Hollowell and Noah Carroll notched the contributors on Martin’s power play goal. Scoring his tenth of the season, Kopacka adds to the Greyhounds lead on a Soo power play with Sandin and Hollowell adding the helpers on Kopacka’s goal. 5:55 into the final period, Ryan Littlejohn sets up Firebird Ryan Moore for Flint’s second of the contest. With his eight on the season, Keeghan Howdeshell gives the Soo a 8 – 2 win at 8:01 of the third with Hollowell adding the assist on Howdeshell’s fourth of the season.
The Soo will now head to North Bay to face the Battalion on November 16th in a 7:00 p.m puck drop.
