The Soo Greyhounds opened their fourth consecutive round two post – season on April 5th when they hit the ice against the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League post – season action. The Greyhounds and Attack were two of three OHL franchises in 2016 – 2017 to accumulated more than 100 points with the Soo finishing the regular season with 100 while the Attack had two more points than the Greyhounds at the end of the 2016 – 2017 season. In the only two meetings during the regular season, the Greyhound fell 6 – 1 in both match – ups against Owen Sound.
Morgan Frost sent a pass to Greyhound Jack Kopacka at 2:08 of the second to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead on Kopacka’s third of the post – season. 1:32 into the third, Owen Sound’s Ethan Szypula had the lone goal for the Attack with Sean Durzi and Trenton Bourque drawing the assists on Szypula’s goal. Sinking his second of the 2017 play – offs, Gustav Bouramman fired a Greyhound power play goal at 6:03 of the final period with captain Blake Speers and Boris Katchouk adding the contributors on Bouramman’s goal. At 16:25 of the period, Kopacka scores his second of the game with a Soo unassisted goal to increase the hosts lead to 3 – 1.
With Attack netminder on the bench for an extra attacker with 46 seconds left in the game and the Soo shorthanded, Conor Timmins finds the back of Owen Sound’s with his first of the post – season on an unassisted goal. Greyhound goaltender Joseph Raaymakers made 27 saves in the Soo’s 4 – 1 win over the Attack.
The Greyhounds will take their 1 – 0 best of seven series lead into April 7th game in Sault Ste Marie against the Attack for a 7:07 p.m start.
