In the 2017 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft on June 28th, the Soo Greyhounds drafted Uppsala, Sweden native Rasmus Sandin with their first round selection 52nd overall along with Kotka, Finland native Rasmus Kupari with the second round 112th overall selection .
The 17 year old blueliner Sandin played 36 games in the Sweden SuperElit League with Brynas IF Jr where the 5’11” and 180 lbs defenseman had three goals and 15 assists in 36 regular season games while tallying 14 minutes in penalties in 2016 – 2017. In two post – games with Brynas IF Jr, the Uppsala, Sweden native added two more assists to his season total. At the 2016 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Rasmus helped Team Sweden to a gold medal with notching two assists in six games.
The 17 year old forward Kupari played between the Kärpät U18 (Jr. B SM-Sarja) and Kärpät U20 )Jr. A SM-Liiga) in 2016 – 2017 where the 6’0” and 170 lbs sank 12 goals and added 19 assists in 43 regular season match – ups. In 10 play – off games in the spring of 2017, had five goals and contributed five more assists to his season totals.
In Poprad, Slovakia, Kupari added three helpers with Team Finland at the 2017 IIHF U18 tournament and bring home a silver medal with Team Finland.
