Greyhounds Need Overtime to Make Thirteen in a Row with Win Over Frontenacs

Hitting the ice for the second straight evening, the (21-3-2) first place west division Soo Greyhounds were coming off their twelfth straight win when they met the second place east dvision (14-7-2-3) Frontenacs in Kingston, Ontario at the Rogers K-Rock Centre on December 1st in Ontario Hockey League regular season action.

Giving the Soo a 1 – 0 lead, Keeghan Howdeshell sinks his sixth of the season 8:55 into the second period with Barrett Hayton and Anthony DeMeo drawing the contributors on Howdeshell’s goal. Kingston’s Jason Robertson and Nathan Dunkley sets up Frontenac Linus Nyman to even the game 1 – 1 at 11:05 of the second. Soo rookie Cole MacKay scores his fourth of the season for the Greyhounds go – ahead goal 18 seconds into the final period with Hayden Verbeek and Conor Timmins registering the helpers. Robertson and Nyman had the assists on Dunkley’s goal to pull Kingston even 2 – 2 with the Soo at 2:48 of the period.

At 2:17 of the overtime, Timmins finds the back of the Frontenacs net to give the Soo their thirteenth straight win. Hayton and Greyhound goaltender Matt Villalta had the contributors on Timmins power play game winner.

The Soo now finish their three game road trip on December 3rd in the nation’s capital against the fourth place east division Ottawa 67’s in a 2:00 p.m afternoon matinee.
