The Soo Greyhounds headed into Owen Sound on April 9th with a 2 – 0 lead in a west division semi – final series lead over the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League post – season. The Greyhounds won game one and two with a score of 4 – 1 in both meetings in Sault Ste Marie to open the round two series against the Attack.
Jacob Friend found the back of Soo goaltender Joseph Raaymakers’ net 5:49 into the opening period with Maksim Sushko and Ethan Szypula drawing the contributors on Friend’s power play goal. On their 25th shot of the game, Owen Sound’s Kevin Hancock fires a goal past Raaymakers’ catcher to give the host a 2 – 0 lead with Nick Suzuki and Sushko adding the helpers on Hancock’s goal. With 1:34 left in the middle stanza, Morgan Frost fires a pass to Greyhound Boris Katchouk at the side of Attack netminder Michael McNiven’s net to sink his sixth of the post – season and pull the Soo within one heading into the second intermission. Anthony DeMeo had the other assist on Katchouk’s goal.
At 6:30 of the third, Sean Dyrzi brings the Attack’s lead to 3 – 1 on Owen Sound’s insurance goal with a pass from Petrus Palmu. With an extra attacker on the ice for the Greyhounds, Owen Sound’s Palmu sends the puck down the ice to find the empty net to give the Attack a 4 – 1 win over the visitors. Santino Centorame set up Palmu’s empty net goal at 18:46 of the period. Raaymaker turned away 37 of 40 shots in the Soo’s first loss of the semi – final series.
Game four will take place at 7:00 p.m in Owen Sound on April 11th with the Greyhounds up 2 – 1 in the best of seven series against the Attack.
