Greyhounds Fall to the Spirit on the Road in Saginaw

Heading into their final week of the 2016 – 2017 Ontario Hockey League season with only three games on the schedule, the west division champions, the first place (46-15-3-1) Soo Greyhounds hit the ice against the fifth place Saginaw Spirit (26-30-7-2) Spirit in Saginaw, Michigan on March 15th. The Soo entered into the midweek match – up with a 5 – 1 record against the Spirit in the first six meetings of the season.

At 18:06 of the second period, Saginaw’s Matthew Kreis sends a pass to Filip Hronek to give the Spirit a 1 – 0 lead. Sinking his 19th of the season and tying the game 1 – 1 was Greyhound Morgan Frost at the 1:59 mark of the third with Barrett Hayton and Bobby MacIntryre adding the assists on Frost’s power play marker. 3:16 into the final period with an unassisted Saginaw goal, Hayden Hodgson gives the Spirit a 2 – 1 win over the Soo. Greyhound goaltender Matt Villalta turned away 30 of 32 shots in the Soo’s loss on the road.

The Greyhounds will now return home for their final two games of the season with a March 17th match – up against the Spirit at 7:07 p.m.
