In Kitchener, Ontario on December 15th, the first place west division (27-3-2) Soo Greyhounds took on the first place midwest division (20-10-2) Kitchener Rangers in Ontario Hockey League regular season action.
Kole Sherwood sends a pass to Adam Mascherin gives the Rangers a 1 – 0 lead at the 7:59 mark of the second period. Joseph Garreffa sets up Rickard Hugg of the Rangers to bring the hosts to a 2 – 0 lead at 11:55 of the period. Scoring his first of the season, Noah Carroll pulls the Soo within one at 16:09 of the middle stanza with Morgan Frost adding the helper on Carroll’s goal. Jake Henderson and Riley Damiani had the assists on Kitchener’s third 17:04 into the period on Connor Bunnaman’s goal. With 1:10 remaining in the second, Keeghan Howdeshell finds the back of Kitchener’s on Howdeshell’s ninth on the season with Mac Hollowell and Jack Kopacka notching the contributors on Howdeshell’s power play marker.
At 13:50 of the third, Hollowell even the game 3 – 3 for the Greyhounds with his eighth of the season with Barrett Hayton and Frost adding the helpers on Hollowell’s tying goal. With Howdeshell all alone in front of the Rangers net, the Greyhound rookie slide a goal past Kitchener netminder Luke Richardson with two second left in the game. Kopacka and Noah Carroll had the assists on Howdeshell’s game winner for Soo. Greyhound goaltender Matt Villalta turned away 28 of 31 shots in the Soo’s 4 – 3 win over the Rangers.
The Greyhounds will round out their two game road trip on December 15th in Guelph, Ontario before the 2017 OHL Christmas break against the Guelph Storm in a 4:00 p.m puck drop.
