Greyhound AAA Midgets Eliminated from GNML Post Season

The fourth place Soo AAA Midget Greyhounds hit the road to open their 2017 – 2018 post – season on February 9th in Iroquois Falls, Ontario for game one of the Great North Midget League match – up against the fifth place Timmins Majors.

Gabby Kioki finds the back of Greyhound Dawson Hunter’s net at 13:42 of the second to give the Majors a 1 – 0 lead with Trevor Mayappo and Cameron Dutkiewicz adding the assists on Kioki’s power play goal. Sinking their second power play goal of the contest, Cameron Chisholm scores Timmins second of the game at 1:05 of the middle stanza with a pass from Mayappo. Raf Praysner and Caleb Wood set up Greyhound Colby Arbour for the Soo’s lone goal of the game to give the Majors a 2 – 1 win and a 1 – 0 lead in the best of three series.
In game two back in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario at the Essar Centre 24 hours later, Greyhound Raf Praysner sinks the opening goal at 15:08 of the second to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead with Nick Jameus and Wood drawing the contributors on Praysner goal. With the Majors on a power play Koeb Barrette evens the game 1 – 1 at 10:57 of the period for Timmins with Riley Brousseau and Frederick Leclair – Pouw setting up Barrette’s goal. Caden King finds the back of Dylan Dallaire’s net for the Soo’s go – ahead goal at 8:29 of the middle stanza with Jacob Doucette and Arbour notching the assists on King’s goal.

At 10:37 of the third, Austin Holmes sinks the tying goal for the Majors behind Dawson Hunter to bring the game even at 2 – 2. Leclair – Pouw had the lone helper on Holmes tying goal. With a scrum in front of Greyhound goaltender Dawson Hunter 16 seconds into overtime, Chisholm slides the game winner past the Soo goaltender to give advance the Majors to the second round of the GNML post season. Garret Gelinas and Riley Brousseau had the contributors on Chisholm’s game winner.
