Greyhound AAA Midgets Earn Two Wins over the Visiting Cubs

In their first game of two, the second place Soo AAA Jr Midget Greyhounds hit the ice on Saturday October 8th in Great North Midget League action when they hosted the sixth place New Liskeard Cubs at the John Rhodes in Sault Ste Marie at the John Rhodes Centre.

Noah Boman fires the first goal of the game for the Soo at 14:16 of the second to give the Greyhounds a 1 – 0 with a pass from Josh Rouleau. Camaryn Baber sinks the hosts second of the contest at 6:57 of the period with Lucas Theriault and Boman adding the helpers on Baber’s goal. 42 seconds later, Greyhound Tyler Nott brings the Soo’s lead to 3 – 0 with Dale Armstrong and Owen Shier drawing the contributors at the 6:15 mark of the third.

Kew Lisekard’s Devin Williamson finds the back of Greyhound netminder Garrett Boyonski at 10:53 of the third to bring the Cubs within two. Spencer Dupuis and Phil Corbin had the assists on Williamson’s goal. At 8:29 of the period, Parker Morgan increases the Soo’s lead to 4 – 1 with helpers coming from Caleb Wood and Theriault. Rounding the scoring was Armstrong for the Greyhounds fifth of the game at 5:38 of the third to give the Soo a 5 – 1 win over the Cubs. Wood and Ford had contributors on Armstrong’s second point of the game.

With game two starting at 11:00 a.m on Sunday morning at the John Rhodes, the Greyhounds looked to make it a perfect weekend when they met the Cubs in GNML action. Parker Morgan opened the scoring for the Soo at 11:30 of the first with Wood and Steven Bellini setting up Morgan’s power play goal. Baber gives the Greyhounds a 2 – 0 lead at 9:48 of the first with Boman and Shier drawing the assists. 15 seconds later, defenseman Kelly Quevillon finds Shier to bring the Greyhounds lead to 3 – 0. 1:07 into the second period, Morgan sinks the Soo’s fourth of the game with Baber and Tristan Cicchello adding the helpers on Morgan’s goal.

6:59 into the second and on a power play for the Soo, Greyhound forward Lucas Theriault scores the hosts fifth of the game on a power play on an unassisted goal to bring the lead to 5 – 0. Scoring the Cubs first of the contest 49 seconds past the halfway mark of the second was New Liskeard’s Brady Lacharity. Tristan Flood and Dupuis had the contributors on Lacharity’s goal. The line of Lacharity, Flood and Dupuis were back at it with 43 second left in the second with Lacharity finds the back of Boyonski’s net for the Cub’s second of the contest.

Baber sends the Soo into the second intermission up by four with Greyhounds sixth of the game with seconds left in the middle stanza. Assists came Boman and Shier on Baber’s second of the game. Scoring a hat trick for the Greyhounds was forward Camaryn Baber at 3:58 of the third on a Soo power play. Boman and Nolan Ford had the helpers on Baber’s third of the game. With 1:49 left in the game, maxim Breault scores the final goal of the game with a New Liskeard power play goal. Williamson and Ethan Allair drew the assists on Breault’s goal.

The Greyhounds will now be back in action after a two week layoff when the Soo heads to Sudbury on October 22nd and 23rd to meet the fourth place Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves. Game times will be 8:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m.
