In their lone game of the weekend, the ninth place (0-8-0-3) Soo Minor Midget Thunderbirds hit the ice against the visiting first place (10-3-0-0-1) North Trappers on November 4th in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario in Great North Midget League regular season action.
Michael Neveau, Justin Mauro and Jacob Sewell had one goal each for the Thunderbirds to give the Soo their first GNML win of the 2017 – 2018 season. Jason McCormick had two assists in the Thunderbirds 3 – 2 win over the Trappers on Saturday afternoon matinee. Soo goaltender Noah Zeppa earned the win between the pipes for the minor midget Thunderbirds.
“It was a great step forward for our program and we are real happy for the young men to be rewarded it hasn’t been easy for them thus far for sure. We are only focused on helping those 19 players improve and develop but a win like this is a huge confidence boost but it’s only one win, we will learn from it and move on. We have a lot of work ahead of us and we’re going to keep trying to get better every opportunity we get.”
The Soo leaves for Brantford, Ontario to take part in the Dale Parker Memorial on Thursday, November 9th. Next up for the (1-8-0-3) Thunderbirds in GNML action will be in Sudbury on November 18th and 19th when they meet the seven place (4-3) Sudbury Minor Midget Wolves in 7:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m puck drops.
