The Soo Greyhounds headed into game two of round two up 1 – 0 in the best of seven series lead against the Owen Sound Attack on April 7th at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario in Ontario Hockey League post – season action.
At 5:22 of the opening period, Greyhound rookie Barrett Hayton fires his first of the 2017 post – season to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead with Tim Gettinger and Jack Kopacka adding the contributors on Hayton’s power play goal. Sinking his second of the contest was Hayton with one second left in the period to send the hosts into the first intermission up 2 – 0. Boris Katchouk and Colton White drew the assists on Hayton’s second power play marker of the game. Bobby McIntyre finds the back of the Attack’s net 14:36 into the middle stanza for his second of the play – offs with an unassisted goal to bring the lead to 3 – 0.
Petrus Palmu sunk the only goal of the contest for Owen Sound at 7:26 of the third with Markus Phillps and Santino Centorame setting up Palmu’s goal. With 1:18 left in the game and Owen Sound with an extra attacker on the ice, Gettinger scores his fourth of the season on a empty net to give the Greyhounds a 4 – 1 win over the Attack. Soo goaltender Joseph Raaymakers turned away 34 of 35 shots in the Greyhounds win in Sault Ste Marie.
Game three will head to Owen Sound on April 9th when the Greyhounds take a 2 – 0 lead on the road for the next two match – ups. Puck drop will be 6:00 p.m.
