Four Thunderbird Veterans Headed South to Continue Junior Careers

Four Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Soo Thunderbirds fly the coop from Sault Ste Marie and head to Trenton and Niagara Falls, Ontario to join the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Trenton Golden Hawks while captain Matt Caruso will be joining the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Niagara Falls Canucks. Forwards Gage Stephney, Zach Senecal and Mark Tassone will join the Golden Hawk roster for the 2017 – 2018 OJHL season.

Sault Ste Marie native Senecal heads to the Golden Hawks for defenseman Andrew Cordssen – David. The 19 year old forward enters the 2017 – 2018 OJHL season with 43 goals and 47 assists in 104 regular season games with the Thunderbirds along with seven goals and four contributors in 17 post – season match – ups in the 6’0” and 185 lbs two seasons in his hometown of Sault Ste Marie.

18 year old forward Gage Stephney enters his second junior ‘A’ season with hitting the ice in Trenton in September of 2017 with sinking 16 goals and adding 16 helpers with the Soo. The 6’0 and 195 lbs forward tallied 56 minutes in penalties with the Thunderbirds. In four post – season games in the NOJHL, Gage added one assist to his season total.

5’11” and 195 lbs forward Tassone will take his skills to join the Golden Hawks in September after finishing two seasons in the NOJHL with 31 goals and 38 assists in 102 regular season games along with the 18 year old adding five goals and five assists in 17 post – season games with Thunderbirds.

20 year old Caruso will now take his high scoring abilities to Niagara Falls to join the GOJHL Canucks after scoring 59 goals and contributing 73 helpers in 107 regular season games in two season with the Thunderbirds. The 5’9” and 160 lbs forward had eight goals and eight assists in 17 play – off games with the Thunderbirds in two seasons.
