The west division (10-15) fourth place Eagles continued their road trip with a stop on December 1st to open the month against the east division (17-9-1) second place Cochrane Crunch at the Tim Horton Event Centre in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action. The Soo were coming off a 5 – 3 win 24 hours earlier in Hearts over the Lumberjacks.
With Kobe Keller’s 13th of the season, the Soo forward gave the Eagles a 1 – 0 lead with an unassisted goal 5:15 into the opening period. T.J Delaney finds the back of Soo goaltender Carter McPhail’s net at 5:55 of the period to even the game 1 – 1 with Caleb Doman drawing the contributor on Delany’s tying goal. Twenty seconds past the halfway mark of the first with an unassisted goal Clay Ellerbrock scores the go – ahead goal at the 10:20 mark of the first for the Crunch. Kyle Herbster and Connor Lovie set up Cochrane’s Austin Stauffer to bring the Crunch lead to 3 – 1 on a host power play at 5:43 of the middle stanza. Christian Bardarson fires his 20th of the season to pull the visitors within one at 16:11 of the period with a helper from the Soo’s Nick Techel.
With 2:59 remaining in the second, Jonathan Lakhani sinks the tying goal with Thomas Dyball and George Orfanos registering the assists. At 3:48 of the second overtime, Hayden finds the back of the Crunch’s net to give the Eagles a 4 – 3 win. Kyle Quinn and Keller had the contributors on Clark’s game winner. The Eagles netminder Shane Brancato stopped 44 out of 47 shots in the Soo’s eleventh win of the season.
The Eagles will round out their three game road trip on Saturday December 2nd in Timmins at the McIntyre Arena in a 7:00 p.m start.
