It was a battle of the second place (21-15-2) Blind River Beavers and the fourth place (20-11) Soo Eagles on December 18th in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Community Centre in Blind River, Ontario.
At 17:48 of the opening period, Blind River’s Anthony Bastianello finds the back of Eagle goaltender Carter McPhail’s net to give the Beavers a 1 – 0 lead with David Campbell adding the contributor on Bastianello’s goal. Veteran Jake Saxton sinks his sixth of the season 12:03 into the final period to pull the Soo even 1 – 1 with the Beavers. Jonathan Lakhani and Hayden Clark had the assists on Saxton’s tying goal. In the second overtime, Kobe Keller scores the game winner 3:26 into the period to give the visitors a 2 – 1 win over the Beavers. Bobby Price and Clark had the helpers on Keller’s game winner.
Beaver coach Kyle Brick told Saultsports that “I thought we were good in spurts tonight. We had some guys going some not, we had our chances to win the game but we lacked the focus needed to do so. The Techel Bardason Keller line is really hard to contain and I thought they were the difference tonight. We need to get back to competing shift in shift out if we’re going to have success Thursday night.”
“We played a real solid road game tonight. Both goalies were solid and gave their team a chance to win. Mcphail would probably like the Beavers goal back, but keep us in the game when we ran into penalty trouble.” Picked up a valuable point on them and maintained our games in hand” said Eagle coach Jim Capy.
The Eagles will now host the Rayside Balfour Canadians on December 22nd at the Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan in a 7:30 p.m start.
