Dyball’s Two Helps Lift Eagles Past Lumberjacks in Hearst

In their first of three games on the road, the fifth place (14-10) west division Soo Eagles hit the ice in Hearst, Ontario against the fourth place (11-12-1) east division Hearst Lumberjacks in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season match – up on November 30th.

Lumberjack Nikko Morin sinks the first goal of the game 3:20 into the game to give Hearst a 1 – 0 lead with helpers from Dawson Waddell and Josh Bifolchi. Colin Boudreau scores the Lumberjacks second of the game at 3:57 of the period with Morgan Scriber and Wade Auger notching the assists on Boudreau’s goal. Thomas Dyball finds the back of Hearst’s net for his first of the 2017 – 2018 season to pull the Eagles within one at 12:04 of the first with Kellan Tharaldson and George Orfanos adding the contributors on Dyball’s goal. Max Johnson gives the hosts back their two goal lead 4:46 into the second on the Lumberjacks third of the game, Spencer Silver and Samuel Bourdages had the assists on Johnson’s goal.

With 3:28 remaining with the middle stanza, Christian Bardarson closes the gap to one on a Eagle power play with Nick Techel and Kobe Keller setting up Bardarson’s 18th on the season. At 13:06 of the final period with a power play goal, Hayden Clark finds Bardarson for the Soo’s tying goal to bring the game even at 3 – 3. Scoring his second of the contest, Dyball gives the Eagles a 4 – 3 lead at 18:40 of the period. The Soo’s Orfanos and Clark set up Dyball’s go – ahead goal. With 1:22 remaining in the game and the Lumberjacks with an extra attacker, Keller registers his 12th of the season for the Eagles and gives the Soo a 5 – 3 win. Techel had the assist on Keller’s empty netter. Carter McPhail made 13 saves in the Eagles 5 – 3 over Hearst on Thursday evening.

The Eagles will continue their road trip with a stop on December 1st to open the month against the east division (17-9-1) second place Cochrane Crunch at the Tim Horton Event Centre in a 7:30 p.m start.
