After playing their first eleven games on the road, the (8-1-2) Sault College Cougars men’s hockey program hit the ice on November 3rd and 4th at the Rankin Arena for their first home games on the 2017 – 2018 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) DIII season against their opponents the Schoolcraft College Ocelots.
Austin Rowe and Jason Uhl led the Cougars with a hat trick each along with Rowe adding one assist in Sault College’s 10 – 4 win over the Ocelots on Friday evening. Veteran forward Cody Poirier found the back of Schoolcraft’s net twice for the Cougars. Scoring singles for Sault College in their ninth win of the season were forwards Mark Khull and Ryan Vendramin. Lucas Duckstein, Jared Binguis and Vendramin notched two contributors along with captain Tyler Brown and Nick Trecroce adding three helpers for the Cougars. Registering single assists in the win were Cole Peck, Kevin Lanoix, Andrew Trowbridge, Mark Khull and Kevin Thrower on Friday evening in front of 300 collegiate hockey fans. Goaltenders Braedan Turco and Drew Gregory shard the duties between the pipes for Sault College.
In game two of the weekend at the Rankin Arena, Mark Khull and Austin Rowe fired two goals each in the Cougars second 10 – 4 win of the season on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Vendramin, Trowbridge, Binguis, Uhl, Poirier and Brown had one goal each in the Cougars win over the Ocelots. Forward Austin Rowe had three helpers while Trowbridge, Uhl, Brown and Trecroce added two contributors for Sault College. Lanoix, Duckstein, Lewis and Kamzol had one assist on Saturday afternoon against Schoolcraft College. Netminder Carter Bissonette saw action and earned the win for the Cougars.
Next up for Sault College will be on December 1st and 2nd at Rankin Arena against the Finlandia Lions in 7:00 p.m puck drops for both evenings.
