On March 2nd at the John Rhodes Centre in an afternoon face – off, the Korah Colts hit the ice for game three looking for their first win of the best of five series in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League championship finals against the St. Mary’s Knights. The Knights headed into Thursday’s match – up leading the series 2 – 0.
With the Colts on a power play at 7:47 of the opening period, forward Noah Naccarato fires the first goal of the game to give Korah a 1 – 0 lead. Liam Brescacin and Tyler Albert drew the helpers on Naccarato’s goal. With 3:08 left in the period, Albert sends the Colts into the first intermission up 2 – 0 with a pass from Tyler Legros. With 19 seconds left in the middle stanza and on a Knights power play, Daniel Mills pulls St. Mary’s within one with Matt Capisciolto and Austin Rowe adding the contributors. Scoring Korah’s second power play goal of the game and giving the Colts a 3 – 1 lead was Issac Lennox with Naccarato and Brescacin setting up Lennox power play marker.
Lennox increases Korah’s lead to 4 – 1 with an unassisted shorthanded Colts goal behind Knight netminder Josh Payeur at the 7:32 mark of the third. Rowe closes the gap to two for St. Mary’s at 6:16 of the period with a top corner shot behind Colt goaltender Braxton Marlow. Jonny Hammond and Michael Cicchelli had the helpers on Rowe’s power play goal. With Payeur on the Knights bench for an extra attacker fires his second of the contest into a St. Mary’s empty net to give Korah a 5 – 2 win over the Knights to bring the series to 2 – 1.
Colt defenseman Jarret Litalien told Saultsports that “the win feels good but we’re not satisfied yet, and were gonna stick to our guns and keep the guys rolling.”
Game four will take place on March 3rd at the John Rhodes Centre in a 2:30 p.m puck drop.
