Soo Greyhound defenseman Conor Timmins heard his name called first on Saturday morning in Chicago at the United Centre at the 2017 NHL Draft. The 18 year old blueline was the first player selected on day two of the draft with the Colorado Avalanche selecting the Thorold, Ontario native in the second round with the 32nd selection overall.
Coming off his second full season as a Greyhound, the 6’2” and 182 lbs defenseman sank seven goals and had 54 assists in 67 regular season games in 2016 – 2017 while tallying 69 minutes in penalties for the Soo. The 11 post – season games in the spring of 2017, Timmins contributed one goal and added seven assists for the Greyhounds. The 18 year old Thorold, Ontario led all defenseman for the Greyhounds in 2017 – 2018.
In his two seasons, Timmins was named the 2016 – 2017 Best Defenseman while after the 2015 – 2016 season, Conor was the recipient of the Most Improved Player for the Greyhounds. The fourth round selection for the Greyhounds in 2014, Conor spent the season in 2014 – 2015 with playing for the Thorold Blackhawks and St. Catharines Falcons of the GOJHL with sinking seven goals and notching 11 assists in the GOJHL.
Timmins will head to Calgary in the summer of 2017 for a chance to earn one of the positions on the U20 Junior Team Canada roster.
