Coming off a 2 – 1 win on March 31st in game one of the west division final best of seven series over the Soo Eagles, the Blind River Beavers hit the ice April 2nd for game two against the Eagles in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Blind River Community Centre.
Yianni Liarakos sends a pass to Max Khull to give the Beavers a 1 – 0 lead 1:45 into the second period for Khull’s first of the post – season. Sinking his third of the 2017 play – offs, Zak Lambrecht fires Blind River’s second of the contest at 8:53 of the middle stanza with Max Khull and Liarakos drawing the contributors on Lambrecht’s power play goal. With 41 seconds left in the second, Steven Khull finds the back of Eagle netminder Kade Phipps net to give the Beavers a 3 – 0 win over the Soo. Cole Peck and Max Khull had the assists on Blind River’s second power play marker of the game. Earning his second shutout of the 2017 NOJHL post – season, Blind River goaltender Myles Hektor made 24 saves in the win while Kade Phipps turned away 26 of 29 shots for the Eagles.
“Tough to win games when you only generate one goal in two games and spent most of the night killing penalties! We look forward to going back to the Pullar in front of our fans and working our way back into the series! Having Hubbard, Schultz and Gaudet back in the lineup will also help” said Eagle coach Jim Capy.
Beaver coach Kyle Brick told Saultsports.com that “It was a great game, I thought we played hard and competed well. We are happy with the result, but moving forward and looking at game three.”
Game three will now head to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan on April 5th for the west division final between the Beavers and Eagles for a 7:00 p.m start.
