Bantam Wildcats Win Gold at Prestigious Clearview Tournament

The Sault Ste. Marie Bantam B Wildcats brought home a Championship over the October 23rd – 25th weekend from the Clearview Ice Cats ‘Pink in the Valley’ Tournament in Alliston, Ontario.

Kayla Stevenson’s goal at 0:17 of overtime broke a scoreless tie in Sunday’s championship game to earn the victory for the Wildcats over the Stoney Creek Sabres. Jana Caughill posted the shutout in goal with a number of key stops.

“That was a hard-fought game by two pretty evenly matched squads,” commented Wildcats coach Jeremy Stevenson. “We were really good in our own end and they didn’t give us much in theirs. Our girls wanted this one bad, and they worked their tails off to get it. A great start to our tournament season.”

The Wildcats earned their berth in the Championship game by running the table in round robin action, going undefeated in four starts.

On Friday night, the Wildcats blanked Clearview Ice Cats 4-0 on goals from Madison Vernelli. Kira Tangie, Breanna Hodkinson and Stevenson. Caughill earned the shutout.

The Wildcats edged Stoney Creek 4-1 on Saturday afternoon with markers from Jaz Pitawanakwat, Hodkinson, Tangie and Vernelli.

A few hours later, the Sault edged Caledon Coyotes 2-1 on goals by Makayla Mazzuca and MP Lecours.

In Saturday’s 10 PM nightcap, the Wildcats closed out the round robin with a 2-0 victory over the Peterborough Ice Kats. Scorers were Lecours and Tangie. Caughill served up the donut in goal.

The SSM Bantam B Wildcats also include Tyra Giasson, Jalen Gagnon, Paige Simon, Sophie Thibault, Jaydin Zack-Fabbro, Halle Maclachlan and Logan Coccimiglio.

Next tournament action for the Wildcats is November 13th – 15th at the Barrie Sharkfest.
