Bantam ‘B’ Wildcats Win Leaside Tournament

M.P. Lecours’ second goal of the Championship game proved the winner as the Sault Ste. Marie Bantam B Wildcats claimed gold in Toronto over the March 11th – 13th weekend.

After an undefeated round robin schedule, the Wildcats outlasted the Markham Stouffvile Stars 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to win the Bantam BB division of the 36th Annual Leaside March Break Madness tournament.

“Once again, we found a way to win” quipped Coach Jeremy Stevenson. “We battled injuries and sickness all weekend and got some balanced scoring from our offence. We’re a B team playing up in the BB division and these were some pretty tough teams – a pretty big win for these girls.”

On Friday night, Jana Caughill posted her first of three shutouts on the weekend in a 5-0 win over the host Toronto Leaside BB Wildcats. Kayla Stevenson had two goals with singles going to Madi Verrnelli, Makayla Mazzuca and Lecours.

Saturday action saw the Wildcats beat the Markham Stouffville Stars 1-0 and the Toronto Leaside B Wildcats 2-0. Goals were scored by Kira Tangie, Breanna Hodkinson and Lecours.

In Sunday’s final round robin game, the Cats beat the Orangeville Tigers 2-0 with Vernelli handling all of the scoring.

The Wildcats’ next action is the OWHA Provincial Championships in the GTA on April 8th – April 10th.
