Algoma University and the Algoma University Thunderbirds Varsity Athletics Program are pleased to announce that Farah Alfar has joined the women’s basketball program for the 2017-18 season.
“We believe Algoma is a great fit for Farah, both academically and athletically. She really likes the small classes and campus size and that’s one of the benefits to our University. She is very hard working and has experience playing both the point guard and shooting guard position. At the guard position, she helps create more depth for the upcoming season as well for the future,” said women’s Head Coach Ryan Vetrie.
From Aurora, Ontario, Alfar has been playing basketball for eight years. Alfar is a 5’7″ guard with Aurora High School. She has been an MVP for four years and captain of her squad. Alfar also coaches basketball.
Alfar will be studying in Algoma U’s four-year Bachelor of Business Administration program.
“Committing to Algoma was an easy decision for me as I really liked the small class sizes and the friendly campus environment. I felt very welcomed on my visit and met a lot of great people which helped reassure it was the right decision to make. The small class sizes and the co-op program is something that was really important to me in terms of what I was looking for academically. It was also a great fit for basketball as I felt welcomed and comfortable right away. Coach Ryan and I have similar visions for the team and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success next year,” said Alfar.
