The Algoma Thunderbirds wrestling team will be in Hamilton, Ontario on February 11th competing in the OUA Championships, hosted by the McMaster Marauders.
Competing for the wrestlers are Aksel Pollari (Echo Bay, 61 kg), Earl McKinney (Augusta, GA, 65 kg), David Serra (Hereford, MD, 68 kg), Bryce Davis (Fenton, MI, 72 kg), Farhang Nouri (Toronto, 76 kg), Stephen Kreyenbuhl (Chicago, IL, 82 kg), Theodore Dracopulous (North York, 90 kg), and Brody-Allen Evans (Sault Ste. Marie, 100 kg).
“Heading into the OUA Championship’s this weekend, the Thunderbirds coaching staff is optimistic that the young team will perform to the standard that has been set throughout the season,” said Head Coach Trevor Manchester. “We have a great opportunity to upset some of the more established programs and qualify a few wrestlers for the U Sport Championships.”
The current defending OUA Championships are the men’s and women’s Brock Badgers. The Badgers earned the title last year in the George Leach Centre. Both Badger teams are currently Number 1 in Canada.
The OUA Championships will be streamed live on OUA.TV.
In other varsity action, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will have their final road games of the season. On Friday night, the Tbirds will be in St. Catharines, Ontario taking on the Brock Badgers. The men’s Badgers are currently fourth in the nation, posting a 12-4 record, while the women are 7-2 in the OUA.
On Saturday, the teams will be in Hamilton, taking on the McMaster Marauders. The McMaster women are second in the nation, with a (14-2) record, while the men are (7-9) in the OUA.
Game times are 6:00 p.m (women) and 8:00 p.m (men) on both nights. Games will be streamed live on OUA.TV.
The basketball teams will close out their 2016-17 regular season at home on February 17th and 18th.
