The Korah Colts looked to capture their first senior Sault Ste Marie High School Football League City Championship in 22 years when the hit the field at Superior Heights on October 27th in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
After 22 years, the Korah Colts raised the City Championship trophy with a 14 – 7 win over the Steelhawks with running back Caleb Patteri and linebacker Tyler Albert registering the touchdowns for the Colts while Joe Rosso picked up a fumble recovery in the Colts end zone for Superior Heights lone touchdown. Grade 11 Korah quarterback Jordan Robinson – Wright finished the championship game with a total of 66 yards on 12 rushes along with five completion on 11 attempts. Colts Darian Belkosky had seven carries on 27 yards with Nik Gervais adding 12 carries for a total of 63 yards. Antwan Fair had four solo tackles and two assisted tackles for Korah with Belkosky also contributing four solo and one assisted on defence for Korah.
Steelhawk Cooper Laframboise lead Superior Heights offence with carrying the ball on 15 carries with a total of 50 yards. With the lone touchdown, Rosso also contributed with five solo and four assisted tackles. Caden Rogers had five solo tackles and four assisted along with Joe Trudeau adding five solos and three assisted tackles on Friday evening. Steelhawk Nick Roussain had four solo and three assisted tackles in the 2017 city championships.
Korah quarterback Jordan Robinson Wright told Saultsports that after a 22 year city championship drought Friday evening’s win was “was a hard fought battle, but its euphoric, you look back on the greats who won before us and its just amazing to be one of those groups to win.”
The Colts will now head to either North Bay or Sudbury on November 11th for the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association senior championship.
